Choosing between water or livelihood"... The well that brought hope back to three villages
01 Water Access

Choosing between water or livelihood"... The well that brought hope back to three villages

I am Ahmed, a member of the Ghireigana Committee. In the past, we were more than 8,000 people, including 1,500 displaced persons, and it was truly a real suffering. Three villages had no water at all. We were facing long queues and there was no electricity. The old stations had stopped working, and the ones that were still operating had water mixed with generator oil, which caused kidney diseases and stomach pain for people. Those were very difficult days, to the point that the painful phrase always repeated by people was: ‘We did not know whether to go and fetch water or go and look for food for our children.’ All our effort and time were wasted just trying to find water. But today, the situation has changed because of the rehabilitation of this borehole. There are no more queues and no more problems—no oil, no diseases, no stomach pain. Life has become stable, and clean water is now available for all the people of the village, as well as the displaced persons.

Water Access

Al Wadi Al Akhdar village water back again

n Al Wadi Al Akhdar village (Khartoum State) water scarcity was not just a service gap, it was a critical need to save lives. With the onset of the conflict, water had become a distant hope, a limited resource people waited hours to access. This changed under the Rapid Response Fund, supported by the IOM Sudan with funding from the U.S. Department of State منظمة سودان صفر مخلفات was able to provide the village with safe, clean drinking water while the area suffered with lack of water and a cholera outbreak. And today, water is no longer a distant hope, or a limited resource people waited hours to access. that Along with International Organization for Migration and with funding from the Österreichisches Außenministerium , منظمة سودان صفر مخلفات rehabilitated and equipped a water source with a solar energy system to ensure long term sustainability. The result: 20,000 people with access to clean and safe water! This intervention did more than address an immediate need. It laid the foundation for safer, more stable living conditions. It restored balance within the the Al Wadi Al Akhdar village, reopened space for hope, and created an environment where children can learn, families can live with dignity, and the future can be built on sustainable ground.
