Al Wadi Al Akhdar village water back again

n Al Wadi Al Akhdar village (Khartoum State) water scarcity was not just a service gap, it was a critical need to save lives. With the onset of the conflict, water had become a distant hope, a limited resource people waited hours to access. This changed under the Rapid Response Fund, supported by the IOM Sudan with funding from the U.S. Department of State منظمة سودان صفر مخلفات was able to provide the village with safe, clean drinking water while the area suffered with lack of water and a cholera outbreak. And today, water is no longer a distant hope, or a limited resource people waited hours to access. that Along with International Organization for Migration and with funding from the Österreichisches Außenministerium , منظمة سودان صفر مخلفات rehabilitated and equipped a water source with a solar energy system to ensure long term sustainability. The result: 20,000 people with access to clean and safe water! This intervention did more than address an immediate need. It laid the foundation for safer, more stable living conditions. It restored balance within the the Al Wadi Al Akhdar village, reopened space for hope, and created an environment where children can learn, families can live with dignity, and the future can be built on sustainable ground.

Distribution of Hygiene Kits

I never imagined that one day I would find myself in a place like this. Life in Khartoum North,Bahri, was simple, and though it wasn’t always easy, it was ours. But displacement has a way of forcing you into places and situations you never expected. Now, we call Al-Hatana School our second home. It wasn’t meant to be a home, but we had no choice. When we first arrived, my biggest worry was my young daughters—how would I protect them? I was terrified about drinking water, about the toilets. They are still so young, and I didn’t know how I could keep them safe and clean in such conditions. But then, everything slowly started to change. After your team worked tirelessly to fix the toilets, we finally felt some relief. We could use them safely, without fear or shame. And when the water tanks arrived—oh, that was a blessing! Suddenly we had enough water to store and use properly, and I began to feel a bit safer for my daughters. You even gave us toothbrushes, simple things that meant so much to us. My daughters were so excited. They brush their teeth every day now, and it makes me smile seeing their little routines return. But what I miss most are the cleaning campaigns. Those campaigns brought something more than just cleanliness; they gave us a sense of purpose. We started to gather our waste, taking care of the small space we now call home, making it healthier for everyone around us. It gave me hope. Thank God, things have improved. And from my heart, I hope you continue your work with us and provide us with more and more. Your help has meant everything so far. Amira Abdel Rahim , a resident of bahri currently displaced in Al Hatana School.
